Day
1, Sunday. San Diego to Palm Springs
(160 miles)
Your guide will lead you through the beautiful San Diego County
backcountry on your way to the Palms-to-Pines highway and the
dramatic descent into the resort community of Palm Springs. There
is even time for a swim before dinner.
Day
2, Monday. Palm Springs to Lake Havasu
(200 miles)
We'll cross the rugged Mojave Desert on our way to the Colorado
River. After crossing the river at Parker Dam, we will continue
north on the Arizona side to Lake Havasu City, home of the reconstructed
London Bridge.
Day
3, Tuesday. Lake Havasu to Las Vegas (187
miles)
We head north to the historic ghost town of Oatman and then on
to Kingman. From Kingman, we continue north to spectacular Hoover
Dam, one of the seven man-made wonders of the world. After a tour
of the Dam, we'll continue along Lake Mead to the glamorous desert
city of Las Vegas.
Day
4, Wednesday. Las Vegas to Death Valley (145
miles)
After
a night in Las Vegas, we need an easy day of riding. We'll go
west through Red Rock Canyon and the town of Pahrump on our way
to Death Valley. We usually make the 15-mile (each way) side trip
to Dantes View which, at nearly 5500 feet [1700 meters] elevation,
provides a dramatic view of Death Valley. From Dantes View, we'll
descend to our hotel at Furnace Creek.
Day
5, Thursday. Death Valley
We'll take a day off from riding to explore some of the wonders of Death Valley, or just lay by
the pool. You decide. Short ride options include a day trip to Scotty's Castle, Artists Palate,
Dantes View, Badwater, the Devil's Golf Course or several other geological wonders within the valley.
Day
6, Friday. Death Valley to Lake Gregory (210 miles)
We leave Death Valley by way of Emigrant Pass and the Panamint Valley. We'll have lunch in a small
old mining town in the Mojave Desert, then continue south to the San Bernadino mountains. We'll
ride past Silverwood Lake on out way to the resort community of Lake Gregory at nearly 5,000 feet
(1500 meters) altitude in the San Bernadino mountains.
Day
7, Saturday. Lake Gregory to
San Diego (170 miles)
We'll ride up and over the mountains before descending to Yucaipa and Oak Glen. We'll continue
through scenic inland valleys before stopping for lunch in old town Temecula. We've got a few
more fun roads left before returning to San Diego. What a great week of riding!
